March 2023 newsletter

Dear friends of "Pislya Sluzhby"!

Welcome to our April 2023 newsletter. In this edition, we will share the highlights of meetings and results of the "Pislya Sluzhby" (“After Service” in English) Foundation's work, as well as opportunities and achievements in the development of veteran opportunities. Please subscribe to our social networks to stay up to date.

Here are some of the stories that we are featuring in this edition:

The story of a female sniper who was retrained thanks to “Pislya Sluzhby”

Julia, a former sniper of the "Tornado" battalion, turned to us. She voluntarily joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army in 2015 and served until 2018. After returning to civilian life, it was difficult for Yulia to get a decent job, which is why she was forced to go to Poland for seasonal work. Pislya Sluzhby" found retraining courses for Yulia, which will allow the veteran to work with pleasure and provide for her life. You can read about how we solved this problem in the article.

The story of Maryana, whose husband was left without both legs

Maryana was looking for funds for her husband's prosthesis abroad. She was frustrated by the leg prosthetic options she was able to find, so she looked for alternative points of view and turned to Pislya Sluzhby" for help. We turned to our partner, who recommended a prosthetist in Kyiv who was able to personally visit our hero in the hospital, talk to him and his wife. Answering question after question, the doctor debunked myths about prosthetics in Maryana’s specific case. The next day, a corrective operation was performed and now the soldier is undergoing a healing period for further prosthetics. Read the story in its entirety.

Restoration of documents for a wounded soldier to obtain status and financial support

Given the realities of living in a total war situation, the problem of issuing documents among the military and veterans is well-known and widespread, but in this case, the situation turned out to be even more complicated. The wife of a wounded soldier turned to us with a request for help with the restoration of documents, but her husband had been unconscious in hospitals in Dnipro and Kyiv for six months at the time of the application. The soldier needed in matters of restoration of documents lost during evacuation, namely: obtaining UBD and receiving benefits and financial support from the military unit, which has not been provided since the time of the injury. You can read about how our partners from the Viside Bar Association solved this issue.

Many requests are also currently in the works. For someone, a solution has already been found, someone is in the process. We will continue to publish information about successful cases on the website in the Results section

The “Pislya Sluzhby" initiative has started hosting art workshops, and other types of art events are also planned. These events are scheduled to take place every week in the city of Kyiv, and we invite veterans, military personnel, their family members, and volunteers to join us.

The project aims to provide cultural and social reintegration and psychological rehabilitation for participants through art. It creates a creative and relaxed environment for participants. The master classes contribute to discovering new abilities or improving existing skills. The project also seeks to promote a positive image of veterans as creative, well-rounded individuals.

Master classes are scheduled to take place every week, and registration is available through our Telegram group. An interesting and emotionally fulfilling experience, new acquaintances, and a chance to relax and discover new interests await you.

We are pleased to announce that "Pislya Sluzhby" Foundation and "DIGNITAS" CHARITABLE FUND have officially become partners.
