Military experience

Andriy has been part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Border Guard Service, and the internal affairs bodies of Ukraine since 2010. When the full-scale invasion occurred, he held the position of senior weapons inspector. In February 2023, he chose to join the assault unit of the newly established Safari regiment and participated in combat in the Bakhmut direction. Because of his effective leadership of personnel in battle and his successful planning and execution of tasks, Andriy was honored with the "Silver Cross" by Valery Zaluzhny.

History of Wounding

He was twice injured near the village of Kurdyumovka, Bakhmut district in the Donetsk region. "The most recent serious injury occurred on October 20, 2023."
One fragment passed through the eye and stuck in the skull, where it remained; the other is on the left shoulder and is still in the body; two - in the right leg; another fragment passed through the neck to the thoracic spine, breaking the 2nd and 3rd vertebrae and damaging the hard shell of the spine. The injury resulted in paralysis of the lower body. The fragment was expertly removed from the spinal canal by neurosurgeon D.V. Ovcharenko at Dnieper Mechnikov Hospital.

The first three months after the injury were very tough, both physically and emotionally.

Diagnosis

Asia V. has an incomplete spine fracture causing lower body paralysis. Focus on verticalization, walking, and functional independence skills.

Rehabilitation

The struggle continues, and the desire to live drives Andrew's recovery. Progress is evident: after 7 months of treatment and rehabilitation, he has started to regain some sensation in his legs and muscles, and has regained strength in his injured arm. Rehabilitation is ongoing, and the doctors at the rehabilitation center in Odesa are optimistic that Andrei, who has an incomplete spinal cord injury, has a good chance of regaining the ability to walk and functional independence. However, achieving this will require a significant amount of effort, time, and money.
