Andrii Islamkhanov is a veteran who gave his all for Ukraine. In 2022, near Kharkiv, he sustained a severe concussion, which led to complications: his left side was paralyzed, he was in constant pain, and he was completely dependent on outside help. He has a 1st group disability. And he is all alone.
Thanks to our partners’ help, we organized rehabilitation for him in Kharkiv. But after its completion, the question arose again: "What's next?"
He was living in an apartment, looked after by an acquaintance who has two seriously ill parents herself. She begged for help because it was simply impossible to leave him alone.
We reached out to our partner for help, Sviatenko Rehabilitation Clinic. They took Andrii in and organized a transfer from Kharkiv, and Andrii was able to continue his treatment. There he received care, support, and a chance for improvement, smiles, and big hearts around him.
Last week, Andrii took his first independent steps. It is a miracle that human care and attention can make.
But the rehabilitation period is coming to an end. And now, staying in the center, he asks daily: “How much longer can I stay here?” Because when he returns, he will be all alone again with no one to help him.
There are more and more stories like this. The war is ongoing, and the number of severely wounded veterans left without a home and support is only growing.
