Before the full-scale war, Andriy Ihorovych Pashkovskyi ("Turyst") worked as a travel agency manager. Active, positive, athletic — he was a devoted father to a son and daughter, and a loving, caring husband for 22 years.
On February 25, 2022, without hesitation, Andriy joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders as a rifleman in the 105th Territorial Defense Brigade. In July, he was deployed to defend Ukraine’s borders in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region.
On September 10, 2022, devastating news split his family's life into "before" and "after." During another shelling, Andriy sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. He spent five days in a coma, was placed in intensive care, and although his condition was critical, he survived.
The injury left lasting consequences: impaired movement, coordination, and speech.
Since then, Andriy has been fighting to recover. He had to relearn everything from scratch: swallowing, holding objects, sitting up, and standing. Even the simplest tasks required immense effort and perseverance. His journey included many long months of rehabilitation.
Andriy underwent his first rehabilitation at the Modrychi Center, where he made significant progress and regained many essential skills.
Severe traumatic brain injury. Consequences include impaired motor skills, coordination, and speech.
Today, Andriy can move with crutches but still requires support. He can now eat and take care of basic hygiene independently. He is able to walk about 800–1000 steps with the help of a rollator or crutches.
His family sees steady, if slow, progress and holds hope that Andriy will one day walk completely on his own.
His wife is asking for support to help fund another course of rehabilitation at the Modrychi Center — at least a 10-day stay, accompanied by her. The cost is 5,600 UAH per day.
The rehabilitation is planned for May–June 2024, when the weather will be warmer, making outdoor walks and therapy more effective. The goal is also to have specialists assess Andriy's progress and adjust his rehabilitation plan accordingly.
