Combat Experience

Ivan is a devoted warrior who served in the 1st Company, 1st Battalion of the Air Assault Brigade, fighting continuously from 2016 until he was wounded. He went through many battles and earned the status of a combatant. Despite his severe injury, Ivan remains an active military, albeit out of the state.

History of the injury

On September 23, 2022, in the village of Karpivka, Donetsk region, Ivan was seriously wounded during hostilities. This injury caused a severe traumatic brain injury, after which he was in a coma for 3 months. As a result, Ivan was granted the status of а person with war-related disabilities of the I group.

Diagnosis

Ivan was diagnosed with a severe traumatic brain injury, which caused serious health problems. He cannot speak, although he understands what is being said to him. The left side of his body does not work, and he was completely bedridden for a long time. Thanks to the efforts of doctors and rehabilitators, Ivan has started to shake hands and is being taught to sit, stand and take steps with his right foot.  A person with war-related disabilities of the I group.

Rehabilitation

Ivan has been undergoing rehabilitation in the Modrychi Rehabilitation Center in Lviv for over a year. His treatment mostly includes work with a speech therapist to develop the swallowing reflex and physical exercises to teach it to move again. The treatment is complex and lengthy, but it gives prominent results. Ivan needs to stay in the center for another three months in order to consolidate the achieved progress.

Fundraising for rehabilitation

548,700 UAH ($13,383) needs to be raised for the purpose of covering the price of the next three months of rehabilitation at the “Modrychi” Rehabilitation Center. The cost of living and treatment is significant, and Ivan, assisted by his sister and brother, needs financial support for continuing which can considerably improve his quality of life.
