Dmytro Volodymyrovych Fornoliak, a thirty-year-old senior gunner of the 4th mechanized company of the 2nd mechanized battalion of the 72nd Separate Merchanized Brigade of the Bila Tserkva district, performed his duties in the ATO (Anti-Trrorist Operation) zone with dignity. He took part in the defense of his homeland, courageously enduring all the trials of military service. For his services, Dmytro received the status of a combatant.
On April 29, 2022, during hostilities near the village of Novi Petrivtsi, Kyiv region, Dmytro sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. This injury was a severe blow to him, resulting in the loss of a significant part of his body's functional capabilities. After the injury, he was granted the status of a person with war-related disabilities of the I group.

In spite of the severe consequences of his injury, Dmytro continues to fight for his life and health. He is relearning to walk, partially dresses and eats on his own, although his speech remains weak. Dmytro no longer needs diapers and can use the toilet with the help of his family. He works on the computer and phone, which indicates a gradual recovery. At the moment, he is undergoing rehabilitation at the Modrychi Center in Lviv, where a day with a relative who takes care of a patient costs 5,600 UAH.
