Oleksandr Babii, a veteran, joined the Armed Forces on February 25, 2022. He served in the Marines in the 35th Brigade. Oleksandr took part in combat operations in southern Ukraine, where he bravely defended his homeland until he was injured.
On October 18, 2022, near the village of Davydiv Brid in Kherson region, Oleksandr was seriously injured as a result of mortar fire. The injury caused decompression of the spinal cord at the C5-C7 level, which led to a complete loss of the ability to move independently. Since then, Oleksandr has been using a wheelchair and has first-group disability status.
Oleksandr's diagnosis indicates a serious spinal cord injury that limits his mobility. At first, he was completely bedridden and could not even move his head. After a long rehabilitation, Oleksandr managed to move around with the help of an electric wheelchair, although his hands still work poorly. He needs ongoing rehabilitation to improve his condition and quality of life.
In 2023, Oleksandr already underwent a month-long rehabilitation in Odesa, at the Nasha Turbota center. At the moment, it is planned to continue treatment at the Agape rehabilitation complex near Lutsk. Treatment requires constant care, and the recommended duration of the course is determined after filling out a questionnaire at the center. The cost of one day of rehabilitation is UAH 3,300, and the total amount for a month of treatment is UAH 99,000.
To continue Oleksandr's rehabilitation, we need to raise funds for a period of 14 days (UAH 46,200) to a month (UAH 99,000). Further treatment is critical for his progress and possible restoration of motor functions.
