A significant event took place at the rehabilitation center: case managers from the “After Service” Foundation visited veterans whom the Foundation supports, providing them with essential communication and assistance during this challenging period of their lives.
The mentor of this meeting was a true Hero – Oleksandr Vovk, a paratrooper from the 95th Brigade, who lost a leg while defending the Kyiv region. He is the best example of how one can go through all stages of treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetics and return to an active life.
Oleksandr openly shared his experience of choosing a prosthetist, talked about the training prosthesis, and explained how to learn to walk on it correctly. He shared important advice on prosthesis care and how to select the most suitable one. He also spoke about phantom pain that may appear after amputation and gave useful tips on how to cope with it.
In addition, Oleksandr provided valuable insight into going through the Military Medical Commission (VLC) and the Medical-Social Expert Commission (MSEC). He shared his personal experience and offered advice on how to prepare for these stages to successfully obtain important documents and necessary support.
A separate topic highlighted Oleksandr’s discussion of opportunities for military amputees through sports. He emphasized how important it is to support one another and find motivation in achieving new goals.
We sincerely thank all the resilient heroes for their dedication and defense of our country. Glory to Ukraine!
